Learn how to make Valentines Cake Toppers
This project is quick and beginner-friendly. If you want to play with different styles, add in glitter cardstock or use craft foam to make this Valentines cake topper 3D which I’ll be doing in today’s tutorial.
Watch the step-by-step video tutorial to learn how to make Valentine’s Day Cake Toppers with your Cricut here:
To Make Valentine Cake Toppers, You Will Need:
- Cardstock in a variety of Valentine colors. This variety pack will have all the colors you need.
- I am also using this silver shimmer cardstock.
- A good paper craft glue – this Bearly Art craft glue is what I am using.
- Wooden dowel rods
- 1/2″ double-sided foam tape
- Cricut cutting machine – Use this Cricut Comparison Guide to find the right model for you!

Step 1: Upload Valentines Cake Topper SVG to Cricut Design Space
Upload the Valentine cake topper SVG to Cricut Design Space. If you need help with uploading SVG files, learn how to upload SVG files in my tutorial. Then click on “ungroup” to ungroup your layers. Resize the cake toppers as needed and adjust any of the colors in the layers panel. Then cut everything out.
Note: If you want to hide the wooden dowel in the back, then duplicated the bottom layer and mirror it.
Step 2: Assemble the Valentine’s Day Cake Topper
Start by gluing the top layer to the layer underneath (white for me). With the Love cake topper design, the letters and hearts should all touch as if they were one image.

Then flip the cake topper over and add foam strips to the back if you want a 3D layered look. Otherwise, you can glue this instead.

Then layer this on top of the 3rd layer (shimmer silver for me). Repeat these steps to add foam strips to the back and layer on the bottom layer.

Step 3: Add Wooden Dowel to the Back
When the cake topper is assembled, flip it over and glue the wooden dowl to the back. I prefer to use hot glue for this part. If you want to hide the wooden dowl, add foam strips and then place the additional bottom layer that you cut out over the top of this.

And your Valentines cake topper is ready to go. Follow these same steps to make the Happy Valentine’s Day cake topper.
