Valentine’s Day Gift Box Tutorial
If you don’t have a cutting machine, you will need white letter cardstock, the clear craft plastic and ribbon to make this Valentine’s Day box. If you have a Cricut (or other cutting machine) I highly recommend using it, but if you don’t then you can still follow along to make this Valentine’s gift… you’ll just have to cut everything out yourself.
To Make this Valentine Gift Box with your Cricut, You Will Need:
- Medium Weight Cardstock. You can find all the colors you need in this variety pack.
- Valentine theme scrapbook paper
- Scoring Stylus (which is what I will be using in this tutorial) or Scoring Wheel (Maker only). If your cutting machine doesnโt have the scoring feature, this scoring board and stylus is great to use.
- Cricut Pens – I have this pack so I always have the color I need on hand.
- .007 Clear Craft Plastic
- Ribbon (any ribbon will work)
- A good paper craft glue – this Bearly Art craft glue is what I am using.
- Cricut Maker or Explore cutting machine – Use this Cricut Comparison Guide to find the right model for you!

Step 1: Upload the Valentine Gift Box Template to Cricut Design Space (or print and cut out the PDF if you don’t have a Cricut)
Upload the Valentine book gift box SVG to Cricut Design Space. If you need help with uploading SVG files, then check out my tutorial here. Make sure to check the size of your project and adjust if needed. Click on the image (while everything is grouped together) and the width should be 18.826″ and the height 13.826″.
After resizing your project (if needed), click on “ungroup” to ungroup your layers.

Step 2: Modify Lines to Score
Click the drop down arrow for the first layer. Then click on the first layer and change the operation to from “Basic” to “Score”.

Then select the group with both layers (score lines and layer underneath) and select “attach”. This will attach the score lines to the layer it scores on so your Cricut knows where to score. Repeat this for the next layer (the box layer).
Note: If your Cricut doesn’t score where it is supposed to, check to make sure the score lines are attached to the correct layer.

Step 3: Modify Pen Layer
Select both of the writing layers and change the operation to Pen. Each phrase is on a separate layer so you can use different colored pens if you want. To do this, just change one of the layers at a time, selecting the color icon after changing the operation to pen.
Note: You can delete these layers and add your own text. Learn how to write with your Cricut and find my favorite free writing fonts if you are new to using Cricut pens.

When your pen layers are complete, select both of the pen layers and the layer you are writing on and select “Attach”.
Note: If your Cricut doesn’t write where it is supposed to, make sure the pen layers are attached to the correct layer.

Once these modifications are made, it’s time to cut everything out. Follow the prompts in Cricut Design Space so you know when to add your scoring tool and pens.
Note: If you are having trouble cutting the plastic, try the wood veneer setting and add “more” to the pressure. This setting works for me every time.
Step 4: Assemble the Box
The box is a very simple box to assemble. Start by folding in on all the score lines. Add glue to each of the side tab pieces and attach the box sides using these pieces. You will want to glue them to the inside of the box so you don’t see them from the outside. Then glue the open rectangle on top of the tab pieces that fold in on the top of the box.

Step 5: Glue Decorations to the Front
Lay the book so the front of the book is laying flat, but face up. Glue the rectangle layer with the heart cut out on top. Then glue the decorative layer on top. Before gluing these, make sure that you are gluing them to the front cover of the book.

Step 6: Attach Ribbons
Flip the book over so the inside is facing up. Glue a piece of ribbon to each side. The size of the ribbon doesn’t matter, you can trim them to your liking at the end. I recommend using hot glue to hold the ribbons on because this seems to be a better hold than craft glue.

Step 7: Attach the Box
Finish assembling the inside of the book by gluing the clear plastic down and then the card layer on top. On the right side of the book, attach the box by gluing this down. When gluing the box down, line it up with the score line and glue the book spine to the side of the box as well.

Step 8: Fill the Box with Gifts
Last, fill the box with sweet treats or gifts. I like to put a gift card on the bottom and cover it up with candy. It’s best to use candy that is individually wrapped. Then use the ribbon to tie the box closed.

Thanks so much for checking out this Valentine’s Day box. When youโre done, make sure to post these in my crafting group here or tag me if you post them on social media. I absolutely love seeing your crafts and canโt wait to see your Valentine crafts!
