If you are looking for Teacher Appreciation gift ideas, teachers love gift cards! It’s the top gift that teachers say they prefer. But if you still want to get creative and create something unique then you can do that with these teacher appreciation gift card holders!
These teacher appreciation gift card holders make giving gift cards so much more fun and personal. And they are a great excuse to craft with your Cricut!
So today I will show you how to make this crayon and pencil gift card holder so you can give your teacher a gift they love and impress at the same time.
How to Make Gift Card Holders with Your Cricut:
To make these teacher appreciation gift card holders, you will need:
- Cardstock in your color choices – I recommend this variety starter pack of cardstock if you don’t already have all these colors on hand. Otherwise, just make sure that you use at least a 65lb weight cardstock.
- Crafting glue.
- Cricut Maker or Explore Cutting Machine and your green or blue cutting mat.
- Scoring Stylus (which is what I will be using in this tutorial) or Scoring Wheel (Maker only). If your cutting machine doesn’t have the scoring feature, this scoring board and stylus is great to use.

Upload Gift Card Holder Template & Ungroup Layers
Upload either the crayon or pencil gift card holder SVG to Cricut Design Space (or both!). If needed, this tutorial will show you how to upload files to Cricut Design Space. Before editing your design, you will need to Ungroup your Layers. Select your gift card holder and click on “ungroup”. Repeat this for both gift card holders.
Add Your Score Lines
If using a Cricut machine, you will need to change the layer with the cut lines to “Score” instead of “Cut” in Design Space. You can select all the layers together by holding down shift.
If your cutting machine does not have the scoring option, hide those layers and score the box by hand with your scoring board and stylus after you cut it. The scoring feature is really useful when making paper crafts like boxes. So, if you don’t have a Scoring Stylus or Scoring Wheel (Maker only), I definitely recommend getting one.
Attach your score lines to your gift card layer. Hold down shift and select your gift card template with the score lines, then select “attach”.
Cut & Assemble Your Gift Card Holder Templates
You are now ready to cut your project. Click on “Make It.” You should see your score lines on top of your gift card templates as shown in the picture below. If you do not, then go back and make sure you have attached your score lines to the gift card layer.
Follow the prompts on your computer to cut your teacher appreciation gift card holders. If you are using your scoring tool, then make sure to insert this first.

After your gift card holders are cut, remove from your mat. Then, fold along the score lines. Add glue and glue your pencil gift card holder pocket together. Repeat the steps for your crayon gift card holder.
Finish assembly your gift card holder by gluing the rest of your pieces on top. Once they are dry, attach your gift card into the slots and then slide in into your gift card holder!
Although these gift card holders are perfect for teacher appreciation week, they are great to use year-round! They are perfect for teachers at Christmas time or for your artistic friends and kids. Anyone will enjoy these fun gift card holders (and the gift inside!)
