Nativity Christmas Card

I’m back today with another Christmas card template. This time I am sharing a Nativity Christmas card which also makes a gorgeous decoration. I’ll be using my Cricut Explore today with the SVG file, but you can also use a Maker or grab the DXF file (also included) to use your Silhouette.

Cricut Design Space Instructions

Step 1: Upload & Resize Nativity Christmas Card Template

Upload the Nativity Christmas card SVG to Cricut Design Space. If you need help with uploading SVG files, then check out my tutorial here. Make sure to check the size of your project and adjust if needed. Click on the image (while everything is grouped together) and the width should be 24.092″ and the height 18.394″.

After resizing your project (if needed), click on “ungroup” to ungroup your layers.

Step 2: Modify Lines to Score and Cut

Click the drop down arrow for the first layer. Then click on the first layer and change the operation to from “Basic” to “Score”.

Then select the group with both layers (score line and layer underneath) and select “attach”. This will attach the score line to the layer it scores on so your Cricut knows where to score. Repeat this for all 5 of the brown layers and the green envelope layer (with the black rectangle).

Next, select “Make” and cut everything out. Remember to add your scoring tool to your cutting machine first.

How to Assemble the Christmas Nativity Card

Step 1: Glue on Manger Decorations

Start by gluing the yellow layer behind the blue layer. Then attach this to the back of the manger so the yellow is showing on the back of the card. The yellow part is also where you will write on your card if you want to do this. Next, glue the angels to the front of the manger and then glue the star to the front. Then fold on the score lines so that the sides fold in to the front of the card.

Next, glue “O Holy Night” to the blue rectangle piece and glue this to the rectangle that has the score line down the middle.

Tip: Use iron on vinyl for “O Holy Night” instead of gluing the small text.

Step 2: Glue on the Rest of the Decorations

Glue the rest of the pieces to the frame they belong to. First adding the dark blue layer and then the light gray. Make sure that the frame pieces (brown pieces) are facing the correct way before gluing on the decorative pieces. After gluing the decorative pieces on to a layer, fold back on the score lines.

Tip: Make sure to line everything up before gluing. This way you don’t layer the designs wrong or glue something on backwards.

Step 3: Attach the Nativity Card Together

To attach the Nativity card together, place the baby Jesus layer on top of the manger layer upside down. Lay the tab piece down flat and line the outside up with the score line on the manger layer. You also want to line this up with the bottom. While holding this in place, fold the tab piece up, add glue and then press this back down to attach.

Continue to repeat this step to line up the wise men and animal layers. You are lining each one up where the one before it left off. After gluing each one, fold it over to lay flat on top of each other.

Lay the 3 card layers down and apply glue to all 3 of the tab pieces on the other side.

Then press the manger side over to attach to the card. Press on this and let this dry for a minute or 2 before folding the card open.

Last, attach the front of the card. Just add glue to the front and back of the tab pieces to attach this and glue the O Holy Night layer to the front of the card.

Step 4: Assemble the Envelope

To assemble the envelope, fold in on all 4 of the score lines. Then add glue to the 3 tab pieces and layer the other envelope piece on top.

Let the envelope dry before adding your card. I like to use a lighter weight paper for my envelopes. But, if you are mailing your card, then you may want to go with a medium weight cardstock instead.
