It doesn’t matter which team you root for, you can easily customize this welcome sign with your football team’s colors. You can use the free SVG files as stencils to paint your sign or iron them on with iron on vinyl. In today’s tutorial, I’ll show you how I created my football welcome signs.

This football welcome sign can be used for either indoor or outdoors. It’s also great to hang on the front door. I place mine on the shutters next to the front door and it holds up outside great. But, if you want to make sure your wood sign lasts for many years, use an acrylic sealer to seal and protect it. You can find what I use here.

Football Welcome Sign Cricut Instructions

Apply the Field & Paint the Sign

You can cut the field portion of the file out in iron on vinyl or stencil vinyl, depending on the results that you want. For the garnet and black football sign, I cut this out in iron on vinyl, then used this to mark where to paint both colors on the sign before applying the field with my heat press.

For the orange and teal sign, I added the stencil vinyl after painting the wood orange and used it as a stencil to paint the teal over it. So when removing the stencil the field lines are orange.

Press on Your Vinyl

Add the “Welcome to our home” vinyl right above the football field. And then add a piece of parchment paper to the top before pressing. After removing the carrier sheet, apply the football on top and press this on with the same settings.

Use the cricut heat guide settings to apply this which are:

  • 300 degrees
  • press for 30 seconds
  • cool peel

Press each section for 30 seconds. Wait for the vinyl to cool before removing the carrier sheet. If you notice that some of the viny isn’t sticking, press the carrier sheet back down and add heat until it adheres.

Seal the Football Sign

To get more life our of your wood sign (especially if using outdoors), you’ll want to seal the wood round. This spray acrylic sealer is my go to, but any sealer should work. Spray on the sealer, moving in side to side motions.

Note: Make sure that you are in a well ventilated area when spraying on the sealer.

Make the Bow

Using decorative ribbon, create a bow and attach it to the top of your sign using hot glue. If you need help creating a bow, then watch my step-by-step video tutorial to see how easily I assembled this bow.

Add the Wire to Hang

All that’s left is to add wire or string through the holes and hang your sign. The wood rounds that I purchased came with pre-drilled holes. If yours do not have this, you will need to drill 2 holes and then add your string.
