DIY Christmas Card with Gift Card Holder
To Make this Project, You Will Need:
- Medium Weight Cardstock in a variety of colors. You can find all the colors you need in this variety pack of cardstock.
- I am also using white diamond glitter cardstock for the front of the cards.
- Cricut Fine Point Pens
- Scoring Stylus (which is what I will be using in this tutorial) or Scoring Wheel (Maker only).
- A good paper craft glue – this Bearly Art craft glue is what I am using.
- Cricut Maker or Explore Cutting Machine and a cutting mat.

Christmas Card Cricut Tutorial
This Christmas card can be made with any cutting machine that accepts SVG or DXF files. But in today’s tutorial, I’ll be using a Cricut.
Step 1: Upload the Christmas Card SVG to Cricut Design Space
Upload the Christmas card SVG for the design that you want to make to Cricut Design Space. If you need help with uploading SVG files,ย then check out my tutorial here.
Do not resize the file because you want to make sure the gift card will fit in the fireplace. The file size with everything selected should be W: 10.82″ and H: 11.77″. And then before modifying, make sure you click on “Ungroup” to ungroup the layers.

Step 2: Modify Card Design and Cut Everything Out
Click on the card layer with the text. Then open the group in the layers panel so all 3 of the text layers show. Select each of the text layers seperately and change the operation to pen and select the color that you would like your Cricut to write in.

Then click on the line below the text and change the operation to “Score”.

Select the full group that includes the 3 pen layers, the score line and the blue card layer together. Select “Attach” to attach all of these layers together.

Then repeat the same process to change the lines on the brown layers to score and then attach the score lines to the layer underneath. Do this separately for both brown rectangles.

Then cut everything out. Make sure to follow the prompts in Cricut Design Space so you know when to add each pen color and the scoring tool.
Step 3: How to Assemble the Card
Fold the card in half so the writing is on the inside of the card. Then assemble the front of the card by gluing the characters together and then glue them to the front. You could look at the picture below to see how the penguins are assembled.

The picture below shows how to assemble the front of the Santa card.
Tip: If you don’t like to glue small pieces, then flatten the penguin or Santa image and print then cut the images instead to attach to the front of the card.

Next, fold the brown rectangle on each of the score lines and attach the smallest side to the inside of the other side to create a cube. Repeat this for both of the identical pieces.

Glue the bricks to the front of each of the cubes and then another set of bricks adjacent to just one of the sets. Then add glue to just the sides of one cube so you can attach the cubes together while leaving the middle open for the gift card.

Assemble the fireplace and glue it to the inside of the card. Then attach the cubes (that are already glued). You will attach one to the bottom of the fireplace and then add glue to the bottom of the other cube to glue to the top of the bottom of the card.

When the fireplace is attached, you should see the brick on the top of each cube and the front. If the bricks are in the wrong place, just cut more bricks out and attach them so you can see them. Then add your gift card and the card is ready to go!
Tip: As you fold the card in half, it will help get better folds on everything so it’s easier to open and close.
